FIELD HOCKEY


PROGRAM DESCRIPTION


ORYA is excited to announce our new field hockey program! This spring we will be conducting a six week skills program that will occur once a week. We will be offering sessions for children beginning the sport, to advanced players!


  • TINY STICKS – GRADES 1&2

    This program is designed for kids new to field hockey in grades 1 and 2. The program will focus on teaching the basic skills in a fun and relaxed environment. The goal is to allow kids to develop social skills, physical strength, sportsmanship and self-confidence, while introducing them to field hockey concepts. Each session will focus on skill development through small games and team building activities. Equipment needed for this session will be a mouth guard, water and sneakers or cleats.

    Thursdays 5:30-6:30

  • MIDDLE SCHOOL PREP – GRADES 3&4

    Whether your child is new to the sport or looking to continue to learn the game, this skills session is designed to introduce the sport of field hockey including rules, and game concepts. Our goal for this program is to develop individual player skills including dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, and to teach the importance of ball movement and team play in game situations, all while learning sportsmanship and having fun! Equipment needed for this session will be a stick, mouth guard, eye protection, field hockey shin guards, water, and sneakers or cleats.

  • SKILLS & SCRIMMAGE – GRADES 5-8

    This program is for players in 5th through 8th grades that intend to play, or are playing on middle school teams. All levels of ability are welcome! This program will focus on improvement of individual skills as well as small sided games to enhance decision making and teamwork. Stick skills, shooting, passing, attacking and defending, are just some of the skills that will be worked on during this session. Players will be divided into two groups based on experience and skill level, so that all children get the appropriate coaching needed for their individual growth and improvement. Equipment needed for this session will be a stick, mouth guard, eye protection, field hockey shin guards, water, and sneakers or cleats.

The Oyster River Youth Association provides inclusive, fair, diverse and developmentally appropriate recreational programs to the youth of Durham, Lee and Madbury, NH. ORYA meets the changing needs of the children and families in our community for sports and recreational activities by acquiring and maintaining facilities, promoting volunteerism and seeking collaborative and strategic partnerships.
