Fall Flag & Tackle Options 2023

  • Tackle FOOTBALL | pORTSMOUTH YOUTH FOOTBALL

ORYA has suspended its tackle football program. Any local players wishing to play tackle football are recommended to play for Portsmouth Youth Football (PYF). Since our school districts have a cooperative agreement at the high school level it makes sense to have our youth play in Portsmouth to understand their system and players ahead of the possibility of playing together in high school.

  • NFL FLAG FOOTBALL | Grades 2-8

NFL Flag is an introduction to the game of football for boys and girls. This in-house program will will offer one practice per week and a game day on Sundays. Playing 5v5 will offer plenty of touches for players and lots of time on the field. Learning basic throwing, catching and running skills at the younger age groups will transition to honing in on routes, set plays and team work at the older levels.

For 2023 we are just registering all players as grades 2-8 and will then break into divisions based on how many register at each grade and what we feel will create fun and competitive divisions. Unfortunately, this means are not able to offer expected practice days (once per week per team) until we know how divisions will be created. We will, however, do our utmost to avoid conflicts with other in-season programs.

Evaluations will take place the first week in September and are needed for the program to create parity based teams. Once teams are selected families will be notified of their team placement and head coach contact information.

Volunteer coaches will be needed so be sure to let us know if you’re available to help coach! You will NOT have to plan practice sessions. All coaches will be using MOJO Sport, a session planning app for flag football.

Why is there a difference between Durham, Lee & Madbury rates?
When ORYA receives funding from the communities we serve, it directly subsidizes the participation of
our in-house, recreational programs for members of that specific community. The differences between
each residency-rate is a reflection of the expected or actual funding from each community in the
budgeted year. If one community has a lower player fee, it means that community has chosen to reduce
your participation fee in youth, recreational athletic programs. Travel-based programs are not
subsidized by town funding.
