TRACK & FIELD

MISSION STATEMENT

The ORYA Track & Field program is designed to introduce participants to multiple components of the sport from conditioning to form running to participating in age-appropriate track events. With a strong emphasis on participation over competition, the program aims to teach kids that running can be fun! Kids of all age, skill and fitness levels can feel comfortable joining this program as we will focus on individual improvement and setting individual goals. Our true aim is to lay the framework for fostering a life-long love affair with exercise and physical activity.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Our Spring Track & Field program athletes will participate in the track & field events such as standing long jump, shot put (softball throw), and running events from 50m to 800m depending on age and athletic abilities. Each participant is welcome to join in the inter-squad meet at the end of the season, where athletes will compete against their fellow Oyster River opponents and try to set personal bests!

The program will be offered in the evening 2 days per week. In order to support multi-sport participation we encourage attendance on both nights but it is not required. The specific days and times can only be determined based on the availability of the high school track and that has yet to be determined. We’ll announce the offered days and times as soon as we can!

Following the season there may be the opportunity to register for participation in an official track and field event. This will be optional and will require an additional registration, fee and weekend commitment to compete against others in official events. Details will follow as dates and locations are determined by track & field governing bodies.

  • Grades K-2

Our younger program focuses on the basics and introduction to a few different distances and their strategies. Supporting each athlete and their personal goals is an important part of the program so everyone is able to improve based on their ability to beat themselves rather than others.
