Ultimate is a fast-paced, non-contact, self-refereed team sport played with a flying disc on a playing surface with end zones.
The key to playing and understanding the sport of Ultimate is Spirit of the Game. Spirit of the Game relies on the mutual respect of all players and coaches. As a self-referred sport, players are expected to know and adhere to the agreed upon rules. Competitive play is encouraged but not at the expense of fairness or the basic joy of play.
Play begins when the defense throws or “pulls” the disc to offense. Offense throws the disc to one another in any direction on the field. A thrower cannot run with the disc but can pivot. A team scores one point when a player catches the disc in the end zone they are attacking. When a pass is not completed (goes out of bounds, is dropped, blocked, or intercepted) defense immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes offense.
Our volunteer coaches have been members of the Seacoast Ultimate community as players, captains, coaches and parents. Head coach, Mat Packard, has played competitive Ultimate on the national and world stage, and has coached the men’s ultimate team at UNH. Youth league coordinator, Rebecca Hennessy, has played Ultimate for 20 years and coached players from elementary through college.
