    • 2023-2024 Learn To Skate

This program are for the floppy ankles, baby deer and banana peel steppin’ kids out there! Come to Churchill Rink and learn to skate with ORYA. Our program encourages young skaters to develop balance, skating muscles, falling the RIGHT way while having fun on the ice without the use of walkers or balance aids! Participants are welcome to wear any single blade hockey or figure skates (no double runners) since they’ll be learning the basics which translates to all skating. All participants are REQUIRED to wear a helmet and no participants, parents or guardians are allowed on the ice without skates.

Is your participant ready for Learn to Skate? Most participants are usually between the ages of 6-10. We expect each participant is ready to do a class independently from mom & dad for 50 minutes. We hope participants are able to get back to their feet unassisted the majority of the time. We understand everyone is there to learn but we want those that sign up to be confident their child can be independent and ready to deal with falling and getting back up while they improve.

    • Why are program fees different for Durham, Lee & Madbury residents?

When ORYA receives funding from the communities we serve, it directly subsidizes the participation of our ‘non-competitive’, recreational class programs for members of that specific community. The differences between each residency-rate is a direct reflection of the expected or actual funding from each community in the budgeted year. If one community has a lower player fee, it means your elected Town Council, Select Board or Selectmen have chosen to subsidize your participation in ORYA programs. Travel-based programs are not subsidized by town funding.
